FAREWELL

Since my last post, which was over a month ago, I have been inundated with stress and fatigue.

I never went back to work after Shane's mono as I just couldn't bring myself to entertain a room full of students with "end of the year itis." There is something very humbling about your first born being so sick that he is admitted to Intensive Care for a case of mono; it really has left me with the wind knocked out of my sails. Since then, he has had his tonsils and adenoids removed and is still healing from that surgery and has graduated High School with honors. Not bad for a child with severe dyslexia who was labeled by elementary teachers as practically unteachable. He is going to Johnson & Wales University in the fall for Culinary Arts and will be working as well.

Paige has also put me in a melancholy mood. She graduated from Elementary School and will be moving on to Jr. High come September. She is more than ready; she just doesn't know it yet! She is very anxious about venturing away from her school where she has been since kindergarten. She will be absolutely fine! Paige, if you're reading this, I know you will thrive and do great things in 7th grade!

We now have 2 chickens! Lucy needed a friend so we got her Ethel. Ethel is beautiful too! Such fancy feathers on both of them! We now get over a dozen fresh eggs each week! The dogs have learned to make peace with their new feathered friends but the hens haven't caught on yet. Ethel gets all charged up and then Lucy, who is usually so passive, gets in on the fun and they chase the dogs out of "their" territory. It's pretty funny to watch!

Jim is out on Temporary Disability for a badly injured knee. He is receiving gel shots and hopes that they will do the trick; otherwise, it will be surgery to repair a torn miniscus and ACL. He is not exactly enjoying his time off however. "Mr. GO-GO-GO" is forced to slow down and take it a bit easy per doctors orders and he refuses to use the cane the doctor gave him. Seems he is a bit "put out" by the suggestion that while he feels better than ever, his knee says otherwise.

I finished an infant pullover in Homespun and completed another square for my Comforter and Joy Ghan. Mostly though, I do the necessary domestic chores and then take a nap! I have so many people under foot that I can't seem to concentrate or get anything done around here!

Lastly, I do believe that this is my last post. I am no longer going to be blogging. While I very much enjoyed sharing my "Drama's" with you all, I am no longer able to commit to giving the proper amount of time to a blog. A blog can be a fabulous thing IF you are dedicated and creative and keep it lively, entertaining and interesting. Sadly, I feel no such ambition any more. My priorities are changing and blogging is no longer a hobby but feels like a chore. So with that said, thank you all to my faithful who are so kind and stop by to say hello and leave me comments! I so appreciated your support for the last year and a half! Thanks too to all those who stop by and don't actually leave a comment but do read my posts! It is great that you take moments out of your day to see what we've been up to here! I may come back someday but for now, I need to move on and devote my energies to other endevours!

Be well!

FRESH EGGS!!!!

How is this for a perfect Mother's Day present??!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't this the BEST gift????? I have always wanted a chicken! I have no idea why but I've always dreamed of my very own chicken! Silly I know, but hey, that's just me! Anyway.................she is a sweetie pie! She hardly makes any noise and she produces the most perfect, fresh egg (one each day) for us! How handy, huh? Her name is Lucy! Jim put together this little roost house for her and her "perch" (which is kind of hard to see in the picture) is off to the right! So, I have a new member in the ever growing family! How lucky can one mom be! Just don't tell the neighbors! It's sort of against the law to own any farm animals here! Hee, hee!

PROM PRETTY

Can you believe it????? My first born has gone to his Senior Prom!!!!!! WAHHHHH! He just can't be that grown up yet can he????? It just isn't fair! He looks so happy and grown up in his tux! I can't believe that a few short weeks ago, he was a very sick young man in the ICU and now look at him today! He makes mom proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So happy together! If only life could freeze frame itself and hold them just like this always! never growing up! Wouldn't that be something??!!!!! They had a ball and enjoyed themselves so much! It will be hard for them to leave their friends behind :(

PETALS 'N WAFFLES!

Here is the last sweater that I made for my niece who is expecting a girl in June! It is a petal sweater from a pattern book that I can't remember the name of right now! DUH! Then............I remembered the "Petal Hat" pattern on the web somewhere (don't remember where that is either! Double DUH!) and thought..........What a perfect match! So, we have the petal hat and sweater in purple! Isn't it great when you can find bits and pieces of things and match them together!

Now here is a home-made waffle by me! Yes indeed! I got out my moms 1950's waffle iron that weighs a ton and whipped these up for the kids for breakfast one day! YUMMMMMMEEEEEEE! I topped 'em with strawberries and whipped cream! Delicious! Can you imagine that this old thing still works??????? Oh my, and the waffles are THE BEST!!! The grid is nicely seasoned after all these years and they are just soooooo delicious! My mom can't believe that this iron is still alive and kicking but alas, it certainly is and we are soooo happy to have it!

PRAYERS ANSWERED

So many of you have asked about Shane that I thought I would update as many people as possible all at once.

As you all know, my oldest (Shane) got very, very sick with mono last weekend. Two trips to a walk-in ER, 1 visit to our primary care physician, and 2 trips to the hospital ER, Shane was finally admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. He was admitted to ICU because his tonsils, throat and lymph nodes were so swollen, they were constricting his airway; he was having trouble breathing, swallowing and talking. The doctors said that they would not be able to "tube" him for a ventillator because of the severe swelling in the throat so they put him in ICU incase he needed a tracheotomy. Thank god he did not need to go through that but it was pretty scary there for about the 1st twelve hours. He was moved to a regular unit where he stayed for 3 more days getting fluids and medications. The poor thing gave a LOT of blood for testing and was pretty exhausted and feverish the entire time he was in the hospital. Thanks to steroids, his throat and tonsils began to shrink in size. He is due to have them removed at the end of June as the infection left them a mess.

He is getting his appetite back, sleeping less and seems to have more energy now. He is still not in school but is planning to go for 1/2 of this week for 1/2 days to start. The bright spot is that the dr. said he will probably never get it again because of all the antibodies he produced. The dr. also said it was the 2nd worst case of mono he ever saw; the worst case actually got the tracheotomy.
Thank you to ALL who have said prayers and sent cards and notes! We are ALL doing much better now however, the emotional toll is still griping the rest of us most days and now I am exhausted from it all. (yawning as I type this!)
Free advice: NEVER underestimate mono! Most cases are pretty mild and Shane was definately the exception but if you see someone who has trouble swallowing, breathing and talking: insist on an admit and don't take no for an answer! Dr.'s mean well, but sometimes they need a kick in the ass to get them to do their job!

This is for you Shane:

PRETTY IN PINK

Here is what has kept me so busy these last few weeks. That and the fact that I am a slooowwww knitter! These are for my neice who is expecting a baby girl in June!

This is a free pattern from lionbrand for the angel headband which you can find HERE and the free bootie pattern which can be found HERE.

This is the 5 hour baby sweater. I just did the bottom in straight garter stitch since you wouldn't be able to see the original design with the fun fur yarn. Cute, yes?? I think the ribbon adds to it too. Most of the time I omit the ribbon but I like it on this one.

This pattern is also free from lion brand. I really liked working up this set! The pattern was very easy to remember!

HERE is the link to this free pattern. The set is so cute! The hat is to be worn as a tam. I used one skein of Bernat Softee and had plenty to work up the sweater, hat and booties.

EGGSCELLENT!

This is the panoramic Easter Egg that Shane made in his Culinary class! Isn't a lovely confection??!!! There are sweet roses on the top of the egg and cute little bees! It sits on a high Purple pedestal of more sweet sugar.
Inside this delightful confection, are the cutest chicks and ladybugs! Unfortunately, I am not the best photographer and my camera is already a bit dated but you get the idea, yes?? Here is Isabella getting her Spring shave! Can you tell that she really does not like this ritual??? She bit me several times even though she really is a sweet girl. I eventually put on dh's leather gloves to finish the job!

LIVE & LEARN

So, I have been missing for a bit here! Well, there are very good reasons for that! The biggest reason is that I got totally botched up with "the new blogger"! I could not for the life of me get into this here blog! I kept getting redirected and moved around and given error messages and so on! I really thought I would lose my mind! Finally, tonight, I'm in! SHEESH! I hope I remember how to sign in again because this was the worst case of brain fog I've ever had. Now you have to have a google account to sign into blogger! Now, does this make any sense????? Sounds really stupid to me. It's not bad enough that blogger is the sllllllllooooooowest host in the worlkd! Now we have to have a google account! DUMB! I actually worked up a brand new blog over at another host but managed to completely delete it by accident and now this particular host won't let me reuse my blog name! I'd have to come up with a new name so just forget that! I'll find another host; there are plenty to pick from!

Anyway, the second reason I haven't been posting besides the fact that I locked myself out of my own blog is that I have been working a lot. 3-4 days a week on average. By the time I get home, cook, dishes, homework with the kids etc, I'm too tired to fiddle with my blog. Last week I had a class of 5th graders. Two boys decided to switch identities and switch seats. Now, this would have been funny for about....say.....10 minutes. But, they carried on this charade ALL day; no wonder they wouldn't answer me when I called on them! Anyway, 10 minutes b4 class let out for the day, they fessed up. Not one student in the class (including my ALAP students) said one word to me all day. They all just carried on and thought it was pretty funny. Well, I didn't think it was funny at all as you can imagine. When their teacher found out about it, she thought it was even less funny than I did. Are you getting the picture????? Their teacher really raked them over the coals on how completely idiotic their idea was. She explained to them that if Johhny got hurt but he was pretending to be Bobby, but the office called Johhnny's mom only to find out that this was not her Johnny, ....welll......this could actually be a serious thing! So, when I went in TODAY to sub for her again, what do I spy, sitting in a neat pile on the desk???? Hmmmmm????? A lovely pile of apology notes to me! Yes, they were all so apologetic and embarrassed at their silly, little game. They still talked a blue streak, failed to remain on task AND had the nerve to ask for extra time to "clean out their desks". Ah.....nope....not on my watch! One of the original pranksters ended up sitting with me because he couldn't stop talking. By lunch time, he earned a "no recess" day today. I wonder if he's learned anything this time??? Stay tuned!

ME

As you see, I have been knitting a bit lately. The sock below is from Andean Knits. I like the eyelet cuff especially. It is made by knitting a few rows, then doing a dec/ yo row and folding the cuff down inside.

See?? The eyelet is the top of the cuff! I like it! This is the gray top downer I have been working on. Tell me, what is easier than a top downer on circs??!!!!!!!! You have to love these easy, fun patterns.
Well finally!!!!!!!!!!!! We woke up to a bit of measureable snow! After getting less than 3 inches for the entire winter season so far, this was a welcome sight!
OH! My little girl is all grown up! This is the two of them heading off to their LAST father/ daughter dance. Very sweet and so hard to believe!

This set was made for Jim's friend who just had a baby. All three patterns were free from the net! This is the third set made with this exact same yarn. SHEESH! I feel like there is no end to these skeins! LOL! I still have a skein or 2 of this colorway. I am sure there will be more little boys out there who are going to get one of these sets! I like how this came out; there is very little "pooling" for a change.
Here is the matching hat and booties that go with the sweater a few posts back. I am really addicted to making baby things! They work up so fast.

TAGGED AGAIN

Most of you in the blogging world know what a meme is and it seems that I am a target of these quirky little things! So, thanks so much to
Isabelle and Penny for their delightful tag and here are the answers to my 6 Weirdest habits:

1). I carry a bottle of Windex in my Sub bag so that I can clean the teachers white boards before I leave. This isn't just a courtesy, it happens to be one of my pet peeves when I see a black white boards.
2). I have to squeeze the very last little bit out of everything or I feel guilty throwing it away. This comes from my mother who got it from her mother. If I don't get every last drop of something, I just don't feel right. It's not being weird, it's being frugal!
3). Every last dish must be washed before I can go to bed. I have been known to wash dishes at 11:00 PM or later just so that I can wake up to an empty sink. (No, I don't own a dishwasher)
4). If I "line dry" my laundry, I still have to put it in the dryer with dryer sheets on "Fluff"before anyone can wear their clothing. I HATE stiff, rough clothes; it is worse than nails on a chalkboard.
5). I don't lick ice cream: I bite it; with my front teeth! Which drives my kids nuts because it doesn't hurt!!
6). I hate Meme tags! Not weird, just a personal preference!
So there! Now you have it! And I tag:
Jeannie, Wendy, Dipsy, Judy and April
Now, for those that don't know, here are the rules of a Meme: Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.”

In other news, the new year has brought no snow at all! The temps are ridiculous for January! We've had 60+ temps and rain. This is no fun, New Englanders expect snow like it or not! What a boring weather pattern we are in!

I finished a top down baby sweater and made a cute ear flap hat to match, a cute sweater for Sophie and a pair of boot socks for Shane. I am not working on a pair of socks for me, Fluted Bannister socks! Love this pattern! So easy to remember and very relaxing! I will post pics of my FO's soon!

TIS THE SEASON

myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphics
.................for wrapping, decorating, running, baking, shopping, running, exhaustion, traffic jams, 20 deep lines at the register, running, rude sales clerks, rude shoppers and did I mention, RUNNING???? As in like a chicken with my head cut off?????? Why, oh why do we do this to ourselves????? It just doesn't seem right! There are so many other more important things in the world to focus on! I'll tell you why, those of us that allow ourselves to get caught up in this "spinning out of control season" can't seem to jump off the merry-go-round! I vowed to go light this year on gift giving, and I have! I am happy with the gifts we have bought and the loot pile is considerable smaller!!! (Sorry kids) But all the other hull-a-balloo that goes along with this season is really getting on my nerves. It has gotten too commercial, and the real meaning (however you celebrate it) is lost. I am more convinced of this than ever when we took a trip to New York City a couple of weekends ago. I haven't been there in more than 20 years and BOY, has it ever changed! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the sites and the decorations in all of the window shops but I felt like I was living in a communist country with police on every corner and roped off lines to get into stores. As I was waiting to cross the streets (mind you, we were about 50 deep at each corner) seedy characters came up from behind whispering, "Pashmina??? You want pashmina???" Or "Bags??? you want to see my handbags???" Well in fact I did want to see the handbags being hawked on the side alley folded up in large sheets but the thought of actually going down one of those back alleys was terrifying! 20 years ago, they would just stand on the street corner selling them out of the trunk of their car! I know, I know, they aren't supposed be doing that no matter where they are but at least 20 years ago they were doing it in broad daylight where you weren't quite as afraid of being mugged or worse. (I did get a bag BTW; at night, they all come out of their corners and stand in plain site!) Customers were fighting over items and arguing! Anyway, we had a grand time despite the lurkers on my shoulder. Rockefeller Center was as beautiful as I'd remembered and the kids enjoyed the mobs of people and the street performers. Today, we are going to the Wang Center in Boston to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes. (This is all part of their christmas gifts btw; I thought I was very smart to include some culture and cut out some material things).

On the knitting front, I am trying to finish up a pair of socks for someone for xmas, a scarf for someone else and a pair of toddler mittens to match the ugg booties and bomber hat I made for my son's teacher. I am also working on a snowman sweater for Sophie, thanks to Dorothea and Cassie for sending us the chart!!!!!!!

Sooooo.I just want to wish you all a wonderful holiday season and a peaceful, healthy new year ahead! I will talk to you all next year!

FEEDING THE BEAST

I haven't posted in a while mostly because I am busy! Busy cleaning, doing laundry, organizing closets and drawers; BORING! I am also busy working more than I'd like
and trying to do some Christmas shopping.
This year we decided that we were no longer going to "feed the beasts". Yep, I know it is hard to believe but this year we really mean it! Not so much Paige but certainly Shane. Shane started driving this year and got a Jeep and 6 months worth of insurance to go with it along with many, many tank fulls of gas. He also happens to have a dad that NEVER says NO to ANYTHING!This is fine but when is he going to learn about responsibility and ownership and all those hated mature things that we must learn at some point?????? HMMMMM???????
Anyway, 2 years ago it was the original X-Box for both kids, last year it was the x-Box 360 for Shane and the "Fly-pen" , complete with every stinking accessory they make for it and a DELL computer set up also complete with all the bells, whistles and a printer for Paige and I-pods and MP3 players galore along with portable DVD players and a host of other things that they HAD to have and barely use!. Three years ago, Shane got a 1,000.00 snowboard set up with "pimped out" (shanes words, not mine) binding and the best boots we could buy for a size 13 foot.
Now, as most of you would agree, kids today have too damn much STUFF.I undersstand that Jim wants to shower his kids with everything he never had and lets face it, I never had a barbie doll until I turned 40 and Jim me bought me the Ireland Barbie (yes, I had dolls, but NEVER a barbie; my mother always thought that Barbies were too "sexy" and wouldn't promote a good image to me! LOL! Ummmm........but I have the same things as Barbie don't I?)
Well, all that aside, my kids are growing up and honestly, they really DO NOT Need all that stuff to collect. Really, they don't. My 11 yr.old sweet talked Jim into getting her a cell phone last week. Of course it is nice to dial a number and get in contact with her but my mother just opened the door and yelled for me and that worked equally as well. OK, so she is out riding her bike and running back and forth to friends but she could just borrow my phone, right???? Shane has the PS1, PS2, x-box, x-box 360, & PSP. What does he need the PS3 for??? I mean, people are killing each other over a game system!!!! He has an i-pod and an mp3; must he have the zune too???? And lets not forget that the Wii is only 250.00 right now! Hey, what a bargain!
All that said, we will no longer feed the beasts. I mean it this time, I really do! It is going to stop right now, this minute! It is great that our kids have more than we ever had but it is a crime that they have so much, they think they need more. And on that note, I will leave with this to ponder:

“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.” Oprah Winfrey

ADDENDUM

To all who have contacted me privately about the Halloweeen Costume, YES, I made it all by myself with my own two hands! The pattern was a Simplicity(#4015 if you're reeaaally interested) I made a few alterations to length and I put in velcro tabs instead of a zipper for back closure. And thanks so much for wooing me with all your compliments!

TEA ANYONE??????

Do ya' all remember "Chuckie"???? Shane used to have a boy doll named "My Buddy". My Buddy looked like Chuckie's twin, right down to the overalls. We had to hide Chuckie, I mean Buddy,in the attic because it scared Shane so much. When he gets married and has his own kids, I think I'll tell him the story of Buddy and Chuckie again and let him decide what to do with him! Jim carved out Chuckie on this pumpkin! I think he did pretty good!

The Mad Hatter Paige style! This dress is made of black velvet with big red glitter spiders and white webs all over it. It is complete with a sweetheart neckline (yes, I said sweatheart neckline for a Halloween costume no less). The bottom skirting is made from an acetate that is a glittery pattern.

Here is the hat to match the dress of course! Who would the mad hatter be without her hat! Let me just say that while it turned out ok, I will NEVER make another one of these hats again! NEVER, EVER! What a pain!!!!! There is the fabric that is cut and sewn on 6 panels, the foam that makes the hat stand up is also cut into 6 panels. The foam then needs to be stitched to the fabric of the hat! OY! I got so many pricks from the pins and the needle that my fingers look like they were ran through the meat grinder. At one point, I started hot glueing the panels of foam to the fabric and almost burnt my index finger off. I ended up with a nasty bubbly blister and then a scab. Yep, it really got burned that time! Anyway, glad that the whole thing is over! She ended up wearing the costume twice; once for a costume party in which she won the best costume title and a prize!!! (Patting myself on the back over that one, thank you) and then she of course wore it on Halloween.

KNIT ME A SWETAH

This is all dog hair would you believe?????? I say hair because Tessa is a Lhasa Apso mix and they don't have fur or shed. They have hair. She only weighs about 20 punds but all this hair came from her!!!! I really want to save it to knit a warm and toasty sweater but it is all full of matts! WAHHH! Such a waste of good potential yarn! She feels a lot better for it though and even though she may be a bit chilly, she is happy to roll all over the carpet and actually feeeelllll her back getting scratched!

CHINA DOLLS

myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphics

PFFFF, PFFFFFF, PFFF!! I have been running kooky and finally got these 10 pair of booties done for the babes in the China orphanage. I never thought I'd get 10 pair done but I surprised myself and did just fine. I have just sent them off to California where they will be delivered to the orphanage by Penny's daughter. It was fun making something for babies who so need a little love across all these miles!

I MISSED IT

Well, I kept looking at the calendar and trying to remember to remind myself that my one year Blog Anniversay was coming! I had visions of possibly switching servers and doing up something new , exciting and fancy. And don't you just know that my blog's anniversary slipped right on by yesterday, darn it. So, there may or may not be some changes coming in the futute. I really get sick of trying to work with blogger as my puter constantly freezes up when I'm uploading causing me to recreate whatever was unsaved. On the other hand, I don't have a whole lot of time to devote to investigating new homes and learning all that goes along with that! HTML is still a bit daunting to me although I will say that most of my skills were trial and error and self taught! I have had help from
April and Isabelle too who can certainly run rings around my HTML and blog skills! Anyway, Happy Blogiversary to me and my blog!

PURPLE PEOPLE EATER

Does anyone remember that song??? i must be dating myself with that one! This is a new button that I found at our new Joann's SuperStore! What a great place to finally get buttons locally!!! I must have spent about 40.00 on buttons on my last shopping trip there and these were perfect for the baby jacket!

This is the "loud" baby jacket I was telling all the BK'ers about. No one in this house likes this little jacket; they say the color is ugly! Welp, I have a ton of this yarn left over from a poncho that I made for Paige so I thought I would use some and whip up this jacket. The pattern, titled "Comfy Hooded Jacket", was a freebie from Lion brand and it was easy and the yarn is bulky so it work up in less than 5 hours including finishing time. Okay, okay so it's not the traditional blue or pink that we think of when we think "baby" but I used something from my stash and that made me feel good!

It's going to be a lousy weekend with rain forcasted so I am feverishly going to finish up about 10 pair of booties for Penny's Project. I started another small top downer with more yarn from my stash so I hope to make good progress on that too as Shane is off to Loudon, NH for the Nascar races and DH is working on home projects! Shane is allllll excited about his weekend! He is going with friends of ours, their son and daughter and another friend of Shanes' is joining them. They rented a huge RV for the 3 1/2 hour drive and will have a grand time camping out at the track! So, I'll catch you all on the flip side! Have a great weekend!

A SCHAAHF & A CUPULA SWETA'S

Did you all notice my "Road Islan" accent in that title???? LOL! I have a tendency to mutilate any words ending in a vowel or an "er". Anyway, this is the white scarf I made from Caron Bliss yarn. I soooo love this yarn because it feels just like Angora.

This is the Baby Bolero from One Skein. I really like this book but don't really like this pattern. It is written for people who take certain parts of the pattern and just know exactly what to do with them! For instance, when I was binding off the back for the neck, I had to put 13 stitches in the middle on a stitch holder. Now, the pattern does not say anywhere, what to do with these 13 stitches. If I were a new knitter, I would be baffled! I trimmed the edge in the Caron Bliss because I just didn't like this yarn (Sirdar Spree) and wanted to be done with the yarn!!! It is a bulky cotton and even with bamboo needles, it split like crazy. I made a really small, cute headband and crocheted a small flower to add to the headband; so sweet! The little booties are in the Bliss also! Notice the open celtic design on the back of the Bolero??!!!!! Cute, huh?

And here is another 5-hour baby sweater. It is basic, plain, Red Heart Super saver. I had some left over from Paiges leg warmers. I still need to make a hat and booties for it!

5 HOURS????

This is my version of the 5-hour baby sweater. I followed the pattern for the yolk but altered the bottom using only one row of decorative stitching which seems to be lost in the fluff of the yarn. It took me a lot longer than 5 hours !!!!!! The yarn is Caron Wintuk (white) and Sensations Margherita (pink) which is like a soft boucle. It was made for no one in particular so I have put it with my finished projects until some little sweetie comes along and needs a sweater!

Here are some cute snowflake buttons that I discovered in my button stash!!! Of course the picture doesn't snow the true beauty of the button! They are silver snowflakes on a white pearl background. I just love the snow (don't I Wendy?????) and these buttons were perfect!!!

And BTW, this post took me 6 try's to get it right, %*%*!^(!& BLOGGER!!!!! Is anyone else having this problem lately???????
